Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 Instant Camera Review

Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 Instant Camera is a stylish device that allows you to produce instant photos. This is Fujifilm’s second square-format camera that comes in three basic colors: blush gold, graphite grey, and pearl white.

The product combines the Fujinon 65.75 mm f/12.6 Lens with a selfie mirror integrated into it. Unlike Polaroid Pop Instant Camera, which produces 3X4” photo prints, Fujifilm Instax SQ6 produces square-shaped 2.4X2.4” images.

Its predecessor, Fujifilm Instax Square SQ10, had a screen and built-in memory. Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6, on the other hand, is a fully analog camera, with no screen or built-in memory.

Durability

In general, the build quality of the Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 camera is very good. It’s made of high-quality thick plastic, which adds up to its durability.

Overview

At the front of the camera, there is a lens with a small silver mirror to help you take selfies. Once you push the On/Off switch on top of the camera, the lens extends and the lens cover moves away. The camera has the macro mode minimum focus of 11.8”, which enables the optical viewfinder and makes it easier to find the target spot.

Also, at the top right corner, you’ll find the high-performance flash, which automatically adjusts the brightness and calculates the shutter speed. In fact, the shutter speed range of this camera is 1.6 seconds to 1/400, which is a great benefit in terms of the image quality. Besides, to help you make your photos more colorful, Fujifilm includes orange, purple, and green filters to adjust to the flash.

On the back of the camera, you’ll find a retractable panel to insert the cartridge, and above that, there are different modes to be used when taking photos. To change the modes you can use a Mode button on the left. The camera has the following modes:

  • automatic mode;
  • selfie mode;
  • macro mode;
  • landscape mode;
  • double exposure mode (you take two pictures and the camera combines them together);
  • light mode, and
  • dark mode.

Under the Mode button, you will also find a button for Timer (which is a new feature compared to the previous SQ 10 model) and a Flash Suppression button. In the right corner below you can also find the count of how many pictures you’ve got left.

Image Quality

The photos you get from this camera are reminiscent of classic Polaroid-format images, but a bit smaller. The camera uses Instax Square Instant Film. The quality of the pictures is good for an analog camera, but the flash can sometimes be overpowering. Luckily, there is a button to turn it off.

Pros

  • polaroid pictures of a good quality;
  • easy to use;
  • a nice variety of modes, including landscape and double exposure modes;
  • additional color filters for the flash to adjust the color of your images;
  • Timer and Flash Off buttons for your convenience.

Cons

  • a bit expensive at a price of $121;
  • the camera is a bit too wide and hard to hold;
  • the camera is build out of a solid piece of plastic, but it’s likely to shatter if it falls.

The Verdict

[content-egg module=Amazon template=custom/simple_list next=1]

Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 is a nice camera to take instant photos. The image quality is good for a full analog camera, it is very easy to use and has multiple modes. It doesn’t have a digital screen or an SD card to save your pictures. It’s more like an old-fashioned analog camera, which allows you to take instant photos and print them immediately.
